The U-T Arlington Mavericks baseball team kicked off their 2012 season on a winning note. The Mavs took 2 out of 3 on the road against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs this past weekend. U-T-A opened with a blowout victory on Friday as the Mavs pounded out 21 hits in a 17 to 10 win. The Mavericks split a Sunday doubleheader winning 8 to 2 and losing the night cap 8 to 7. Tulane transfer Matt Shortall made a quick impression for U-T-A batting 500 with 7 R-B-I in the series. The Mavericks then pulled off an upset win on Monday as they beat 12th ranked Texas 7 to 5. Preston Beck hit a 2 run home run to give the Mavs a lead they would never relinquish. U-T Arlington’s home opener is Friday afternoon versus Houston Baptist.
