A new jobs report has mixed news for the nation’s economic recovery. Hiring slowed in March, with only 120 thousand jobs added and unemployment rate fell to eight point two percent. The drop in unemployment is good news but its due to a shrinking work force. 164000 workers left the job market. Overall the job market is still not out of the deep hole left by the financial crisis of the 8.8 million jobs lost, about 3.6 million have been added back.

Twitter filed a lawsuit in federal court against companies that create tools that automate posting to and following people on twitter. The suit names five defendants which Twitter claims are the biggest offenders. They fill the service with fake profiles and unwanted messages. Twitter believes that filing suits against the biggest spammers sets the agenda for any other spammers. Spam was once seen as an annoyance rather than an actual problem, but as the service has grown over 140 million users, Twitter recognized how serious a problem spam is. to combat it, Twitter developed algorithmic solutions.

James Olson a Professor at Texas A&M and an ex-CIA agent lectures on the moral dilemmas in spying. What line will you not cross? Does the ends justify the means? Professor Olson read some situations on where you must take a stance. For the safety of the country will you beyond your moral limits. The audience had to make up their own minds to where is the line. Professor Olson book “Fair Play: The Moral Dilemmas of Spying” has more situations to test your morality.

Do you like coffee? Do you like good conversation? Well Global Grounds is the event for you to attend. Different International groups will host the event and will come up with the topic. If you do not like coffee, tea will b provided along with some snacks. The main purpose is for students of different backgrounds to come together and have good conversation. The next meeting is April 19, 2012. Conversation and coffee between cultures hopefully will lead to understanding and a community feeling.

The latest version of Apple’s I-Pad went on sale. At Apple stores lines snaked around the block. The new 9.7-inch display screen features a retina display of 2047 by 1536 pixels. It will have a a 5-megapixel camera. The new version is available in the United States on AT&T and Verizon networks and will connect to 4G networks. It will be on sale at Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam’s Club, Target and Walmart. It also went on sale in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It costs from $499 to $829 based on storage capacity and Wi-Fi capability.

Airfares this year are expected to take off. Industry analysts say the price of crude oil is driving up the cost of jet fuel. Airlines raised ticket prices twice already this year. Jet fuel makes up about 35 percent of an airline’s operating cost. Southwest Airlines, which is consistently profitable, said it won’t post a profit for January, February and March because of fuel prices. So plan ahead or take alternate transportation.

If you received a bad grade and you don’t want it to affect your GPA. The Grade Exclusion can help you. The first thing to do is to meet with your Adviser next if you received financial aid, is to visit the Financial Aid Office,located in Davis Hall. Then you go online to UTA.EDU and search for the Grade Exclusion form. An acknowledgement page comes up first, review and proceed. The last step is to complete the exclusion form and submit . The office will review the request and will answer in ten business days. Remember the approval may not be guaranteed so make sure to see your Adviser for more information and you have until March 30, 2012 to submit.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can aid in finding a location for your business. A workshop led by Joshua Been used GIS in finding the best location for a pizzeria but any type of business can be used. First you must gather all types of data from reputable sources. Data used in the workshop was population, income, locations of other pizzerias, crime stats, location of major roads. The more data you can gather the better. The GIS will combine all of this information and will output the best location. GIS is another tool a business owner can use to lower the risk in opening a business.

Homecoming was this past weekend and The Festival at the Park was a fun event. There was food trucks to suit all kinds of tastes. Food booths also had tasty treats and good food. A stiff breeze didn’t discourage people in trying games. You can also buy merchandise to keep yourselves warm. Music was provided by Big D and kept everyone moving. One of the most popular booths was the caricature drawings. The other popular booth was the wax hands impressions. Everybody was waiting for the parade and the men’s basketball games later that night.
