Remembering the Heroes

Bill Phipps is a true American hero. He is from Lynn, Massachusetts and was born in 1919. During World War II Phipps served in the U.S. Army as a POW officer in Texas. Before the war, Phipps played professional baseball for the St. Louis Browns. He was their starting pitcher for 2 years, winning 6 games. He played many games against famous American ball players such as , Satchel Paige. Loving baseball as much as he did, Phipps stayed in the industry for about 35 years. Phipps now lives in Arlington, Texas to be closer to his two daughters.

UTA Men’s Basketball Team Flying High

The UTA men’s basketball team is in uncharted territory for the program.  With a blowout victory over Texas State the team has run its win streak to fifteen games and a perfect 11-0 in Southland Conference play.  The team has three members averaging double digit points including Lamarcus Reed, Bo Ingram and Kevin Butler, with Reed leading the way averaging just under seventeen points a game. The Mavs look to extend the streak Wednesday, February 15th as they travel to Nacogdoches to take on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, who currently are sitting in second place in the conference.

UTA Hosts Annual College Fair

 

Arlington ISD College Night was held September 22, 2011 in the Maverick Activity Center.  This event hosts more than 3,000 seniors and aids them in choosing the correct college.  There was also a financial aid session held for both parents and students in the Lone Star Theater.  This event is held annually at UTA and more info can be found on http://www.uta.edu.

UTA Men’s Soccer Season Underway

The UTA Men’s club soccer team is back after a one year hiatus.  The team is off to a rough start losing its first three games of the season to Rice, SMU, and University of Texas at Dallas this Saturday 5-3.  The team is very youthful having  nine of the team’s eleven starters being underclassmen.  The team will look to get their first victory this Sunday when they are scheduled to play on the road at TCU at 5 p.m.  For more information on the Men’s Soccer team visit their website on facebook.com
