Davis Hall-Funny

This week we did a funny news cast as our last and final project for the semester. I did David Hall again this week. Davis Hall is usually just serious and nothing fun goes on there. I found two guys who have had funny experiences there and thought it would be a great touch to change how people see Davis Hall. The guys both laughed when they were talling their stories and I really enjoyed doing this last project with them. Even editing I had a good laugh!

Berachah House

With Halloween being on Monday I thought it would be a great idea to do a scary story! Even better is that it is on the UT Arlington campus! As old as the campus is and with as many family members that have gone here I am the only one that knew about the cemetery right down from Davis Hall by the creak. The cemetery was from an orphanage that burned down and now haunts part of Greek Row and the residents in the houses. Be sure to watch out this Halloween there might be an extra person following you by the Greek houses.

Intermural Sports

This week after the wonderful rain Arlington recieved intermural sports were rained out. With the disappointment in not playing this week and not being able to record the players I found great pictures online of all the intermurals sports that UTA plays. Dayna Dyess plays three out of several sports there is offered and her team won championships last year. Even if you are not athletic there is even an intermural for you. They have all types of fantasy sports, poker and many more. Intermural sports are played both in the fall as well as the spring and last all semester long.

Dr. Black

This week I did a profile spotlight on Dr. Beverly Black. Black teaches at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is currently the Ph.D. Program Director, she was previously the MSSW Program Director. Dr. Beverly Black received her doctorates from the University of Texas at Austin. She has taught several places in the United States including Florida but loved the Texas heat and has been here at UTA ever since. Dr. Beverly Black was the first recipient of the Jillian Smith award. She is currently researching family and domestic violence. While Jillian Smith was on call as a police officer she was answering a domestic violence called and was killed.

Cancer Research

The University of Texas at Arlington has several types of research going on every day that is possible. This week I decided cancer research would be the most exciting as well as informative to every single person. One student has been working on this project for over four years and it is amazing he still has the motivation to keep working on it. The lab was filled with all kinds of tools to use with the research. The students weren’t just learning but also teaching each other how to do several things. This is not the only type of research going on at UTA so be sure and look around and see what you can find.

Greek Splash

Greek life had its annual greek splash Friday September 9th, 2011. The fraternities participated in synchronized water dancing and also relay races in little kid pool toys. Five judges judged the event. The guys were placed on outfit, dance and the relay race. The spectators were a huge plus cheering the guys on and enoughing the event. Not a lot of preperation went into the guys synchronized swim dances but it was a sure crowd pleaser and a good laugh for all. The night was a success getting the greek life out all in one place enjoying each others companying and doing something together for a change.

Printing Changes

UTA has always had printers available for students to use. $100 would be put on the Maverick ID card to use through the semester as needed for printing. As of the fall 2011 school year students have to pay for printing themselves. OIT made budget cuts and giving students the $100 for printing was one of the cuts that had a great amount of money. Students that have previously had access to the free printing are a little upset. These students use printing for class notes and several other school related things. Adjusting to the new way of things is hard enough but also with a $1 convenience charge it is going to take a little more time to get used to.
