Gill Collins: Remember a Hero

We had the great oppurtunity to interview Mr. Gil Collins. He was born in San Antonio, TX. At age five Mr. Collins’ parents past away, and with her sister moved to Dallas to an orphanage. After graduating from high school, he was drafted and served in countries like Italy and Austria. He got married twice and has a wonderful family. In his spare time he loves playing golf with his close friends. Also spending time with his family, specially his great grand children and enjoys attending events around the Metroplex. It was a great pleasure to meet and interview Mr. Collins.

Angus may a british Navigator in the Royal Air force, was taken prisoner after a four day walk, after his plane was forced to crash land in the desert of libya. May and his fellow men were captured by an armored divsion under German field commander Erwin Rommel. May, and his fellow allied prisoners were transfered to Stalag VIII-B near lansdorf which is now Poland. The German captors forced the allied prisoners to march to other prison camps to prevent liberation. alot of prisoners didnt make it through these marches, falling due to hunger and exhaustion. May kept strong during this tough as the months grew long. Eventually May was able to escape, and now today he resides in Arlington with his wife betty.

THE RANGERS PLAYED THEIR HOME OPENER ON FRIDAY AS NEARLY FIFTY THOUSAND FANS SHOWED UP TO WATCH THEM TAKE ON THE WHITE SOX. THE HIGHLIGHT BESIDES COLBY LEWIS HAVING NINE STRIKEOUTS WAS IAN KINSLER GOING 3 FOR 4 WITH A HOMERUN. THE RANGERS TOOK 2 OUT OF THREE FROM THE SOX OVER THE WEEKEND. YU DARVISH WILL MAKE HIS MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT TONIGHT AS THE RANGERS GET SET TO PLAY A FOUR GAME SERIES AGAINST THE MARINERS.

Miss Black & Gold Pageant

IT LOOKS LIKE PAGENT SEASON HAS ARRIVED. THE 35TH ANNUAL MISS BLACK AND GOLD PAGEANT WAS HELD JANUARY 29TH IN THE ROSEBUD THEATER. CONGRATUATIONS TO DOMINIQUE CORMIER AS SHE WAS NAMED THE WINNER AND TOOK HOME A TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLAR SCHOLARSHIP AS GRAND PRIZE. DOMINIQUE AND SIX OTHER LADIES WERE JUDGED BASED ON SWIMSUITS, EVENING WEAR, VERBAL RESPONSE AND TALENT. SHE’S EXPECTED TO COMPETE IN A STATE COMPETITION IN HOUSTON NEXT MONTH.

The Allen Rose Story

Allen Rose is a Korean War veteran who was drafted at the age of sixteen years old. He is the proud father of three boys who all grew up to be football coaches and a loving husband of over thirty years. Allen accomplished all of his lifetime dreams and more and today he spends his days watching repeat episodes of M.A.S.H and doing crossword puzzles. He loves being retired and him and his wife have lived in Town Village for six years.

WW2 Veteran Glenn Eckstrom Julissa Garza-Elia Torres

Glenn Eckstrom served in the United States Air Corps during World WarII. He was a Tech Sergeant and served in combat where he won a Distinguished Flying Cross for his act of bravery on one of his flying missions with his crew. He does not regret being drafted straight out of high school, in fact he is very proud and honored that he could serve our country. He is now retired living in Arlington with his wife, this September will be their 63 wedding anniversary. They used to live in various cities in California but decided to move to Arlington in order to be closer to one of their sons.
