Team researches drones

Dr. Frank Lewis, electrical engineering professor and UTA’s Moncrief-O’Donnell chair, runs the lab at the Research Institute (UTARI) in Fort Worth. He is part of a team of faculty researching unmanned aircrafts, or drones. Most of the research will focus on integrating drones into the National Airspace System. Lewis works in the Autonomous Systems Lab (ASL) with ten graduate students and focuses on control systems for unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). They are studying human-robot interaction and developing different ways of controlling the drones. These drones will be useful for a range of purposes, including military, civilian, law enforcement and firefighting.
