Spanish professor wins poetry prize

Professor Ignacio Ruiz-Pérez is gaining international recognition for his poetry. He was awarded the Ninth Annual Luis Cardoza y Aragón Poetry Prize by the Mexican Embassy in Guatemala. The prize was for his book “Notas manuscripts llenas de incógnitas,” a work he describes as a log book containing his reflections on literature and life in general. Most of his work is in Spanish, but poet Carlos Reyes translated works by Ruiz-Pérez into The Sign of the Crow. Ruiz-Pérez is a professor in UTA’s Spanish Department and teaches courses in Spanish, Mexican literature, culture and poetry. He has three published books and two more in the works.
