This past week has been a big one for UTA Men’s Tennis team. Sophomore, Carlos Arbiza, has made his way into the national rankings for both singles and doubles play. He along side teammate, Javier Perez, are currently ranked 49th in the country in doubles. Arbiza also made history this week for UTA while becoming the first tennis player to be named player of the week for the Sun Belt. This is the first year UT Arlington has competed in the conference, but Carlos’ name will forever be in the record book. The Mavericks are currently 3-6 overall and have yet to win a match on the road, but head coach, Diego Benitez says the tough competition they have played lately is only making the team stronger. The Mavericks are only half way done with their 2014 season and still have plenty of time left to improve their overall conference rankings.
