The UTA History Department invited Heather Thompson, an activist and professor at the University of Michigan to speak on campus Wednesday, February 10th. The noted scholar intrigued students, faculty, and visitors to hear her lecture on “Why Mass Incarceration Matters?” The lecture was hosted in the Central Library and students had the opportunity to not only hear Thompson speak, but also discuss the issue with one another. Thompson included an amount of statistics and images to bring the facts to life. After the lecture many were in awe on how the issue affects them personally and how it affects the country as well.
