The Lady Mavericks took on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers for a three game series. For the first time ever, the Chanticleers got to play the Mavericks as Coastal Carolina are the newest members of the Sunbelt Conference. The series began on Saturday as the two team played a double header. In game on the Lady Mavericks had a dominant performance from sophomore pitcher Samantha Clakely as she had a complete game with a career high 10 strikeouts. Senior Shelbi Sikes hit a two-run home run to break the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mavericks win 4-3. In game two, senior pitcher Sam Montes got the start. Montes along with freshman pitcher Mariah Denson pitch a shutout with six combined strikouts. Mavericks would win 2-0. In Sunday’s finale the Mavericks were behind early as Coastal Carolina catcher Kassidy Smith hit a three-run home run. But Clakely eventually settle down. The offense helped Clakely’s outing with eight runs scored in the game. The Mavericks would the game 8-5 and had their first conference sweep since 2015.
