Michael Francis is a UTA student who was able to get a second chance to rebuild his life by finding his place in the army. He was separated from his parents when he was 8 years old and after being in foster care, he was adopted by a dysfunctional family and repeatedly got into trouble. After he was arrested, he was given the choice to join the army and start over with his life. He enlisted in the army when he was 17 and served on active duty for 5 years which included a tour in Iraq before coming to UTA to study criminal justice. Francis says he enjoys what he does as a cadet helping to train his partners in the army and his goal is to be a commissioned officer and go back to active duty after he graduates.
