The UTA men’s basketball team faced a tough team in Appalachian State but were able to pull out the victory 78-68. Brian Warren led the Mavs with 22 points and 9 assists. Edric Dennis also tagged on 14 points of his own. The real MVP of the game, however, was the Mavs defense. They held one of the top scorers in the Sun Belt, Ronshad Shabazz, to only 15 points, well under the 25 points per game he averages. This has been the story for the Mavs all season long, as they have held every team’s top scorer to below their average points per game.
