Shoe Drive

One UTA organization raised awareness about those who cannot afford shoes. UTA volunteers went barefoot for a day to experience how poverty affects people’s ability to afford basic needs. They set up samples of different terrains so students can walk on it and see what it would feel like in a different country. UTA volunteers also collected shoes to donate to “Soles for Souls”, an organization that distributes shoes and clothing to those in need. Delilah Ochoa, PR & Marketing Director for UTA Volunteers said “We have shoes, we are comfortable, but once you’re forced to go the day without them or experience gravel without them. You understand how this is a serious issue affecting millions of people.” You can accept the challenge and join the movement by posting your barefoot picture on Instagram using the hashtag #onedaywithoutshoes
