UTA Basketball Upset

The UT Arlington Mavericks took on Big Ten foe Ohio State in an intense game over the weekend.  The Mavs were able to hold on and secure victory on the road in Columbus for the monster upset that Coach Scott Cross called one of the best in the program’s history.  Congratulations Mavericks!

UTA Homecoming Game vs Fordham Rams

A crowd of over 3,000 helped bolster the UTA Mavs to a thrilling victory over the Fordham Rams on Saturday, a game which marked homecoming for the students of UTA.  The boisterous crowd did not relinquish the vibrant atmosphere until the last free throw dropped, with UTA winning 77-72.

Lady Mavs Volleyball vs UALR

On Saturday, the Lady Mavericks took on conference foe Arkansas-Little Rock in a best of 5 set series.  The Lady Mavs looked strong in their effort to improve their conference record to 4-2, winning the first two sets, the second being a come from behind victory.  After dropping the third set, the Lady Mavs rebounded to hold off the Little Rock Trojans and win the series 3-1.  The next home game for the volleyball team will be on October 15th, versus Texas State.

Women’s Golf Now at UTA

The first sport added to UTA is officially Women’s Golf.  Slated to start in 2017, the golf team will be the final member of the Sun Belt Conference to have added Women’s Golf.  A coaching search is under way, and Athletic Director Jim Baker hopes to fill the coaching position by June at the latest.

The Dunham and Miller Show

The Musers from the radio station in Dallas The Ticket, kicked off their 5 day college tour at UTA, in the College Park Center.  They welcomed the general public and students, and had many guests on air, including a student from UTARadio.com, who squared off against the veteran crew.

Quentin Butler-Sun Belt Athlete of the Week

Quentin Butler has been named the Sun Belt Conference Athlete of the Week, for his performances at the Indoor Track Championships and the TCU Relays, where he won the 60 meter dash and the placed 2nd in the 200 meter.  At TCU, he won the 100 meter dash, beating some of the top sprinters in the country.

Lady Mavs Softball Conference Home Opening Series

After the Re-Dedication of the renovated Allan Saxe Field, the Lady Mavs took on the Georgia Southern Eagles this weekend.  UT Arlington swept the doubleheader on Saturday before losing the last game on Sunday 13-10.  The Mavericks play on the road for the next week before they head home again for a game against North Texas on April 1st.

UTA Baseball Player Profile

With Maverick baseball well under way, UTA News was able to catch a glimpse of one of the Maverick standout players, Travis Sibley.  The Senior shortstop is an indelible cog in the Maverick lineup, and has been for four years.  His on-field and off-field leadership has proven essential for the team’s continuing success, especially with the start of conference play.

Lady Mavs Versus UALR

The last home game of the season brought The University of Arkansas-Little Rock to the CPC.  For the Lady Mavs it was Senior Night, but against a very strong opponent, they were not able to notch a win against the conference leading Trojans. The final score was 48-38.  The next game for the Lady Mavs will be against Georgia Southern on March 5th.
