The UTA Mens basketball team competed in the Hardwood Showcase tournament at the College Park Center on November 16th through the 18th. After losing the first game on Friday to Texas A&M Chorpus Cristi, the Mavericks were able to bounce back and defeat the UC Davis Aggies 68-59. The win pushed UTA to an overall 3-1 record as they continue their non conference schedule before getting into Sunbelt play. Brain Warren finished with a team leading 18 points and 4 assists while TiAndre Jackson-Young grabbed a team leading 11 rebounds. UTA was able to stand off a fierce come back from the Aggies in order to be victorious.
The UTA Lady Mavericks team was back in action at the College Park Center as they took on Texas State Bobcats on November 9th. This was the last game of the season for the Lady Mavericks and also senior night. UTA came into the game with a 15-11 overall record and a 9-7 conference record. Texas was coming into the game in first place of the Sunbelt at 24-6 overall and 15-1 in conference. The Lady Mavs were unable to close out the season with a win as the Bobcats swept UTA 3-0. Kylie Kapp ended the game with 14 assists and Kylie Jedlicka totaled 15 digs. After the game the seniors were recognized with their families for their commitment to the program.
The UTA lady Mavericks played the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at the College Park Center on October 12th. Coming off a win the night before the team was able to make easy work of Coastal Carolina sweeping them in straight sets 3-0. Zhanelle Geathers led the team with 11 kills while Petra Manderson, Kylie Jedlicka, and Madelyn St. Germain all led the team with 12 digs. Alex Janak was able to collect 16 assists as well during the game. This win improved UTA to an overall 12-8 record and a 6-3 Sun Belt conference record. The lady Mavs handed Coastal Carolina its first conference loss of the season.
The new 848 Mitchell Apartments are the new student luxury apartments set to open up on campus in the fall of 2019. The goal of the apartments are to create an atmosphere with a student mentality. They will be located on w. Mitchell street and have began starting to lease. There will be a 1,2,3,4, and 5 bedroom selection with multiple amenities including a queen size bed, a 50 inch tv, full size kitchen with stainless appliances, and a resort style pool. They will be completely furnished within the living room as well. The apartments will have a shuttle to transport students to and from the school back to their housing.
The Lady Mavericks team once again took the court for another volleyball game at the College Park Center against the Arkansas Little Rock Trojans on September 29th. The team was coming into the game 9-5 as well as 3-1 in conference play. Little Rock had a record of 10-7. The match was a close fight as it went the distance to five sets and UTA was able to come out victorious 3-2. Brooke Townsend and Zhanelle Geathers led the team with 18 and 17 kills. While Madelyn St. Germain finished with 35 digs and Alex Janak ended up with 31 assist. This win pushed the lady Mavericks to a 3 game win streak.
The Social Work college of UTA started their year off with a kick start meet and greet event. The event was held for all current social work majors as well as incoming majors and also students considering the college. There were numerous booths presenting different clubs and oppurtunites available within the college. There was also a few games to play, ice cream provided by Steel City Pops, and a raffle that allowed people to go home with some prizes. The event was designed to show attendees that there is numerous things possible with a social work degree as well as answer any questions about the college students had.
