UTA Baseball vs. Louisiana-Lafayette


The UTA Mavericks played the 20th ranked Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns at Clay Gould Ballpark.  This three-game series was a battle for control of overall first place in the Sun Belt Conference.  The Mavericks held off the Cajuns’ to win game one, 5-4.  The series was put on hold until Sunday, because of the chance of bad weather on Saturday.  On a windy day, the series continued with a doubleheader.  In game two, UTA managed to seize the moment and win 10-2.  Going for the sweep, the Mavericks won game three, 9-3. Giving them sole possession of first place.

UTA Baseball vs. TCU

On Tuesday, April 4th, the Mavericks (14-15) hosted the third ranked team in the nation, TCU Horned Frogs for their second matchup of the year.  Things got off to a rocky start for UTA.  Starting pitcher, Jordan West, walked the first three TCU batters.  He was quickly pulled from the game.  The Horned Frogs took advantage of the situation and took an early lead.  UTA managed to get hits, but only scored one run.  The Mavericks managed to start a late game rally and posted three more runs.  Their ninth inning surge fell short.  TCU gets the win.  Final score, 5-4.

UTA Baseball vs. Troy

Over the weekend of March 31 and April 1st, UTA play the Troy Trojans in a three game series at Clay Gould Ballpark.  The series’ times were moved up due to potential bad weather on Sunday.  There was a doubleheader on Friday.  UTA was able to hand the Trojans back to back losses with the final scores of 9-6 in game one and 5-2 in game two.  In game three, the Mavericks had a lead through eight innings.  Troy had a flurry of runs in the last two innings.  UTA couldn’t manage to rally back.  The Mavericks lost game three, 13-5.

UTA Spirit Week

It is Spirit Week on campus at the University of Texas at Arlington.  According to the host, UTA Ambassadors, “It is a celebration of all things Maverick”.  Spirit Week is a week long celebration of events.  It is where students can attend and participate in showing school pride.  They can test their knowledge of school traditions and history.  Plus, if a student is part of an organization, the organization can receive points and win prizes for having the most points.  UTA Ambassador and organizer, Razeena Moosa, explains about Spirit Week and all events taking place this week.

UTA vs. Dallas Baptist University

On Tuesday, February 28th,  UTA  played the Dallas Baptist University Patriots.  In the final game of the Mavericks’ opening homestand, they look to snap their winless streak at Clay Gould Ballpark.  DBU jumped on the board first, they also added more runs with timely offense in the middle innings.  UTA rallied back to tie the game.  DBU padded their lead with additional runs.  The Mavericks had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. UTA fell short in their effort to make a comeback.  UTA lost to DBU by the final score, 9-7.

UTA Baseball Media Day

As the semester rolls on, the UTA Baseball team prepares for the 2017 season. Before the season begins, the team held its preseason media day at the Justin D. Wilson Batting Facility on Thursday February 2nd.  Head Coach Darin Thomas and a few Maverick players gave their insight on what to expect for the team’s upcoming season. They discussed how versatile the team is. The players have to be expected to step in to any role when asked. Coach Thomas and the team are looking forward to getting back on the field and officially start the season.

The annual UTA baseball alumni game took place on Saturday, January 28th at Clay Gould Ballpark.  It gave past players the chance to suit up and play. The scrimmage game served as a warm up for UTA’s upcoming season. The game also gave the opportunity for both current and past players to interact with one another.

The fans were treated to a competitive game early on with the alumni jumping out to an early lead.  UTA answered back with a explosive amount of hits and runs to take the lead and the game. Final score was 17-3.

International Fall Food Fair

The sights and smells of food filled the air on campus at UTA.  Students gathered to dine on various foods at the International Fall Food Fair.  It was held at the University Center Mall.  Different student cultural organizations participated to help raise funds for their groups.  Students and faculty wandered through the UC Mall deciding which foreign cuisine to try.  Some food included Korean, Russian and Vietnamese at this year’s event.  The International Food Fair was part of the International Education Week and hosted by the Office of International Education and International Student Organization.

Student Perspective at Career Fair

For many students at UTA, they are looking to secure good grades for the semester.  Many others look to secure a career after graduation.  Many underclassmen look to get a head start to a potential career path.  One such student hopes he can get a foot in the door for his future. Students wander through the All Majors Career Fair in the Maverick Activity Center.  Speaking with representatives from different attending companies.  Hoping they make the right connections and landing a job.
