Winter Run 2016

Don Zetnick had his annual winter run. Each year participants run 10K or 2 miles to raise money for many of the YMCA of Arlington’s programs to help make a better life for kids and families. This year’s weather wasn’t the most pleasant. Participants gave everything they had in 48 degree weather and pouring down rain.

Brain Tumor Walk

UTA’s Nursing Constituency Council volunteered to help the Brain Tumor Walk at Trinity Park. This even gave many families and individuals from all over Dallas a chance to remember loved ones, honor victims still fighting, and congratulate the survivors. This 5k walk was to raise awareness to help fund brain tumor programs to improve he lives of all those affected by brain tumors.

Female Incarceration

UTA’s Criminal Justice Department held a discussion on female incarceration and reentry for speakers to talk to the community about state and federal incarceration, reentry, and criminal justice reform. At the end of the discussion the audience was given a chance to ask questions and get advice fro the guest speakers.

CPR Certification Class

UTA’s Global Medical Training Organization, also called Mavs Without Borders held a CPR class for students who wanted to get their certification. These students had the opportunity to be trained by skilled nurses on how to save lives. GMT wants to give students a chance to get out and be more hands on when learning about medical issues.

Red Flag Campaign

UTA Student Affairs held a Red Flag Campaign to encourage college students to say something when they see a warning sign for sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking in a friend’s relationship. Many students on campus said they haven’t experienced dating violence, but aren’t exactly aware of what all it’s considered to be. This campaign taught students the seven red flags to look for to help prevent dating violence.

One Student Struggles to Find the Balance Between School..Work..and His Hobby

For a student at UTA, there are many different activities to get involved in, but Paul Capps didn’t have time for any. Not only was Paul a student and full time employer at a private accounting firm, but he also had a special love that took over his nights. Hockey had a special place in his heart. Although Paul has a hard time balancing these things, he knows that Hockey is not something that he is willing to give up.
