The Jungle Book

Forget about your worries and your strife, because Disney’s the Jungle Book is in theaters, but not in the same way many saw it back in 1967. This time it’s a blend of live action and computer graphics. Did the spirit of the movie remain the same and transition well over to live action? Even though skeptics questioned the movie, the Jungle Book’s opening weekend pulled through with an estimated $103 million in the box office. With critics in the audience, this movie was still one of the most popular films of 2016.

Pie-The-Professor

Engineer’s Week here at UTA was said to be quite a success this year. Many entertaining events took place throughout the week, including Pie-The-Professor. Every year, the college of engineering celebrates Engineer’s Week during the week of February 22nd, in honor of George Washington’s birthday. He is considered America’s first engineer and the college celebrated his successes with a pie eating contest as well as an event called Pie The Professor. Students got involved in the action while bringing awareness to what engineers do on a daily basis. One of the engineering department’s primary goals was to better showcase their field of study by hosting more special events such as this one during Engineer’s Week.

Fetch App

Many people say that their dogs resemble them. Others wonder if they can actually find out what dog breed looks like them. The Microsoft Garage app, called Fetch, can help with that. UTA students have been using it on themselves and have entertaining results. Curious about what dog will be chosen for you? Take a photo of yourself and let the app calculate your matching breed!

Black Fossil

Three UTA students took time out of their busy school schedules to come together and form an alternative rock band. Their name? Black Fossil. The band consists of students Kristopher Coca, Zandrea Moore, and Leo Cifuentes. Their roles in the team create equality and a harmonious relationship in the group. Even with all the time invested in their band, these students still manage to keep school as their main priority while supporting one another with their individual needs. Black Fossil’s next event, called “The Afternoon Showcase”, is on Tuesday February 23rd. It’s hosted by Excel Campus Activities and will start at noon in front of the University Center.

Big Game Advertisements

The Panthers and the Broncos played a hard match this past Sunday with the Broncos coming out as the final champions. Many people tuned in for the big football game, but stayed for the creative commercials. These are anticipated every year by consumers and is one of the biggest promotions on television. What makes them so effective to the public? What is driving their success and continuing to propel the companies forward? UTA’s advertising executive, Roby McEuen gives some insight to what goes on behind the advertisements as well as the reason for their success.
